MaameYaa Boafo stars as Briana Johnson on the new NBC drama "Bluff City Law."
Boafo made her acting debut in 2012 in the title role of the award-winning independent film "Asa."
Boafo's television credits include "The Blacklist," "Chicago Med" and "Madam Secretary," among others. She also leads the cast of the online series "An African City."
Boafo was born in Pakistan and hails from Ghana, West Africa. After first coming to the United States to obtain dual bachelor's degrees in journalism and French at Hood College, Boafo was awarded the Levin Scholarship from Rutgers University, where she received her MFA in acting from the Mason Gross School of the Arts. She has since gone on to play roles such as Ophelia in "Hamlet" and the Courtesan in "Comedy of Errors." She made her off-Broadway debut as Walter Mosley's leading lady in his play "Lift."
Boafo won a Drama Desk Award for her portrayal of Paulina Sarpong in the critically acclaimed "School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play" from playwright Jocelyn Bio for MCC Theater.
Boafo also received a Lucille Lortel Award nomination (Best Actress in a Play), Drama League Award nomination (Distinguished Performance), Outer Critics Circle Award nomination (Outstanding Actress in a Play) and an LA Drama Critics Circle nomination (Lead Performance) for the play's West Coast premiere at Centre Theatre Group's Kirk Douglas Theatre in Los Angeles.
