J.J. Totah stars as Michael, Vince’s (Anders Holm) ambitious, dramatic teenage son, in NBC’s new comedy series “Champions.”Michael moves from his sheltered life with his mom (Mindy Kaling) in Cleveland to attend a New York performing arts school, where he’s a small fish in a big pond. Gay, half-Indian and still dressing like he’s 12, Michael has a lot to overcome before he can make friends and win the EGOT that is his destiny. But at least he can count on his family’s support, even if he and Vince clash on pretty much everything else.Totah will soon be seen starring alongside Adam Devine in Walt Disney Pictures’ “Magic Camp.” The young adult comedy follows a former magician who returns to his youth camp to reignite his career.Totah appeared in Chris Kelly’s debut feature “Other People,” opposite Jesse Plemons, Molly Shannon and Bradley Whitford. The film premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, where Totah received strong reviews. Variety included Totah in their 2016 Breakout Stars portfolio and InStyle magazine named him as one of their 10 Rising Stars to Watch in addition to Most Inspirational Person at Sundance. Later that year he appeared in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”Additionally, Totah wrapped production for Mark Rosman’s family film “Time Toys,” which centers on a group of middle school kids who stumble upon a chest full of incredible toys from the future.In 2015, Totah starred in the sixth and final season of Fox’s hit series “Glee.” That followed his performance in Disney Channel’s “Jessie,” for which Totah received a 2014 Young Artist Award nomination.Totah has appeared in severable notable TV series, including “2 Broke Girls,” “New Girl,” “The Exes” and “Sofia the First.” He also starred in “Back in the Game,” alongside James Caan and Maggie Lawson.Outside of acting, Totah is a celebrity ambassador for GLAAD and GLSEN.
