PROFESSOR IAN DUNCAN
Played By John Oliver
Actor Bio
John Oliver reprises his role as Professor Ian Duncan on NBC's comedy "Community." Duncan is a passionate man who never lets his job get in the way of his many vices.
Oliver recently signed a deal with HBO to host a topical comedy series that is set to launch in 2014 and air on Sundays.
Oliver comes to HBO after a hugely successful run as an Emmy and Writers Guild of America award-winning writer and correspondent on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," which he joined in 2006. He first came to prominence as a cutting-edge political standup comedian in the U.K., with a string of television appearances and sold-out solo shows at the Edinburgh Festival from his debut in 2002.
Having made the move to America to work on "The Daily Show," Oliver won the Breakout Award at the Aspen Comedy Festival in 2007 and went on to write and star in his first hour-long Comedy Central standup special, "John Oliver: Terrifying Times,"in April 2008.
Such was its success that Oliver has now hosted four seasons of his own standup series for Comedy Central, "John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show," an hour-long show featuring a handpicked selection of his favorite comedians.
With longtime collaborator Andy Zaltzman, Oliver co-writes and co-presents the hugely popular weekly satirical podcast "The Bugle." Its success has grown significantly since its inception in 2007 and the program now pulls in over 500,000 downloads a week. Oliver and Zaltzman previously wrote and starred in three seasons of "The Department" (BBC Radio 4), alongside Chris Addison, as well as two seasons of the BBC Radio 4 show "Political Animal," based on their satirical live standup show.
Oliver continues to perform his standup comedy to sellout shows throughout the U.S. His additional credits include the feature films "The Love Guru," "The Smurfs" and "The Smurfs 2."
