Adam Levine Hit a Wild High Note Singing Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" with Usher

The former The Voice Coaches nailed this '70s classic.

By Jackie Manno

In 2013, The Voice Coaches, Adam Levine (Seasons 1-16) and Usher (Seasons 4 and 6) totally brought the house down with an epic cover of "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder while performing at the House of Blues. The upbeat performance started out with Levine wailing on his guitar while he and Usher riffed with some smooth vocals with a slight growl. Then, after a mind-blowing guitar solo, Levine hit a high note with some perfect falsetto to wrap things up. Unsurprisingly, the crowd went wild. Watch the amazing cover here

About "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder

Released in 1972 as the first single off Wonder's album Talking Book, "Superstition" rose to the number-one position on the Billboard charts that year. One of Wonder's biggest hits to date, it also won him two Grammy Awards for Best R&B Song and Best R&B Male Vocal Performance.

In 2021, Rolling Stone listed the tune on the 12th position on its "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list, describing it as "a blast of funk." Wonder wrote the song at the age of 22 and first performed it while opening for the Rolling Stones in the summer of 1972. Wonder originally intended to hand the song over to Jeff Beck, but his record producer, the iconic Berry Gordy, saw the promise in the song and insisted Wonder put it on his own album.

"Superstition" by Stevie Wonder lyrics

Very superstitious
Writing's on the wall

Very superstitious
Ladder's 'bout to fall

13-month-old baby
Broke the looking glass
Seven years of bad luck
The good things in your past

When you believe in things
That you don't understand
Then you suffer
Superstition ain't the way, yeah

Split image of Adam Levine and Usher

Ooh, very superstitious
Wash your face and hands
Rid me of the problem
Do all that you can

Keep me in a daydream
Keep me going strong
You don't want to save me
Sad is my song

When you believe in things
You don't understand
Then you suffer
Superstition ain't the way, yeah

Very superstitious
Nothing more to say
Very superstitious
The devil's on his way

13-month-old baby
Broke the looking glass
Seven years of bad luck
Good things in your past

When you believe in things
That you don't understand
Then you suffer
Superstition ain't the way

No, no, no
