It’s become increasingly rare in Hollywood for a movie – which hasn’t even been released yet – to garner kudos for its originality but also its brilliant casting decisions. The action-thriller will enjoy a nationwide theatrical release beginning February 2. Still, in the meantime, NBC Insider wants to shine a spotlight on the all-star cast that helped make this movie a reality.
Argylle centers around a critically acclaimed author, Elly Conway (played by Bryce Dallas Howard), who finds herself living out one of the plots of her latest novels – a nightmare scenario for any writer, to be sure. If the trailer above is any indication, audiences are in for a treat. For now, let’s dive in and check out the stars of what could be the sleeper hit of 2024!
Henry Cavill
Many fans may know him only as Superman, but Henry Cavill has dedicated the past decade of his life to becoming one of Hollywood’s top stars – and it shows. Taking on the titular role of Argylle, the main protagonist of Elly Conway’s book series, we’re confident that Cavill will shine in yet another defining role in a career filled with them! If the hype surrounding his Argylle performance is to be believed, 2024 will be another landmark year for the 40-year-old British star.
Bryce Dallas Howard
In our eyes, Bryce Dallas Howard is one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood, and we’re over the moon that she’ll get plenty of time to show off her acting chops as Elly Conway, the character the film revolves around. As an author who unwittingly writes a book series with unbelievable ties to real-life happenings, she can help steer any movie in the right direction from her facial expressions alone.
Sam Rockwell
Isn’t it time that we all agree that Sam Rockwell can play any role to perfection? In Argylle, Rockwell plays the part of Aidan, who looks to be Elly Conway’s only shot at escaping the chaos she inadvertently created unscathed. We’re not sure if the movie will venture into buddy-comedy territory, but a Sam Rockwell-Bryce Dallas Howard pairing was something we didn’t know we desperately needed until seeing the trailer!
Bryan Cranston
Is there anybody more universally loved than Bryan Cranston? We think not! Whether he’s delivering iconic, timeless performances in some of the most beloved television shows in history or making his mark on the silver screen, Cranston has a reputation for choosing his roles very carefully, and he wouldn’t attach his name to Argylle if it wasn’t one of the year’s best films. Cranston’s star power leads us to believe countless people will flock to the theaters in February just to see him!
Catherine O’Hara
If you’re anything like us, it feels like you’ve grown up with Catherine O’Hara in your lives. Whether you’ll always consider her as Kevin’s mother from Home Alone or, more recently, you know her from her unforgettable role as the matriarch of TV’s Schitt’s Creek, she brings eccentric mom vibes like no other. In Argylle, she plays Elly Conway’s mother – pitch-perfect casting if we’ve ever seen it.
Dua Lipa
The 28-year-old pop superstar is taking her talents to the big screen – and we’re sure fans worldwide will be flocking to theaters on February 2 in support of her. If the film’s trailer is any indication, Dua Lipa will jump off the screen with a delightfully on-point performance. We must admit: Dua Lipa has the look to be one of the next big Hollywood stars, and we’re excited to see if she can handle the pressure of a significant role in such a highly-anticipated film!
Ariana DeBose
The acclaimed actor, director, and singer is also part of this all-star cast! The Swiss army knife of performers, Ariana DeBose can turn any role and make it iconic. Her performances in recent hits like West Side Story, Hamilton, and Westworld have made her a household name, and we expect her role in Argylle to have show-stealing potential.
John Cena
With the possible exceptions of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Dave Bautista, no WWE Superstar has successfully parlayed decades in the ring into a fully-fledged Hollywood career than John Cena. Judging from the trailer, the 16-time WWE Champion will have ample opportunity to literally flex his creative muscles – and we’re here for it! We’ve been following the ascent of Cena’s acting career for years, and a breakout performance could elevate him into the upper echelon of Hollywood’s elite.
Samuel L. Jackson
In the eyes of many fans, a film’s cast isn’t complete without the great Samuel L. Jackson being a part of it! We fully expect Jackson’s trademark wry delivery to be in full effect – with one-liners coming in fast and furious. The man has made a career out of being the consummate professional, bringing an air of legitimacy and believability to every role he takes. We expect nothing as far as his role in Argylle is concerned!
