Benjamin Levy Aguilar Reveals the Reason For His Drastic Hair Transformation
Does the actor's new look mean anything for his character Dante Torres on Chicago P.D.?
Fans of Chicago P.D.'s Benjamin Levy Aguilar—who made his debut as Officer Dante Torres in Season 9—may have noticed that the actor made a big change over the holidays.
On December 23, Aguilar took to Instagram to debut a brand new platinum blonde hairdo with the cheeky caption, "Yeah you know you like it." He's been rocking the look ever since, even during his recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson show. So what does this mean, if anything, for his on-screen persona? Could the makeover mean something so major is happening with Torres in Season 10 that he needs a disguise?
Well, according to Aguilar, the blonde haircut has nothing to do with his role on the show—for now.
"I wouldn't be surprised if Torres could do some undercover work with the blonde hair," the Krav Maga expert told NBC Insider. "I actually wouldn't think that's far-fetched at all since I'm learning more about undercover cops. They really do change their look and do a lot of things to blend in or stand out or fit in any way they have to. But this was really just for me."
He went on to explain that a break in filming the series gave him the long-awaited chance to experiment with his look and have a little fun.
"I've always wanted to go platinum," he said. "So the moments that I'm off an episode or we have hiatus, I just do it for me. But I also think hair or music or all these things are always a beautiful way for us to be able to get out of characters. Because sometimes you don't realize, and you're still kind of 'in it.' So, I find that when I change my hair and I look different, I feel different."
As for what's actually coming up for Torres later on in Season 10, Aguilar says, "Honestly, I wish I knew.[Production] keep it under wraps with me too. I know I should have another big episode coming soon."
But one thing he could spill? There will be, "a lot of Voight," meaning the leader of the Intelligence Unit (played by Jason Beghe) will take on the spotlight yet again in upcoming episodes.
"We'll be closing some of the chapters that have been opened, you know. Just a lot of action and drama," Aguilar said. "Just a lot of exciting things! Sorry, I wish I could say more."
