Blake Shelton's Voice Sounds So Smooth on This Electrifying Cover of "Footloose"
When country and '80s pop meet! Watch Shelton on Season 23 of The Voice Mondays on NBC.
Blake Shelton loves a good '80s hit — and this throwback cover performance proves it.
In 2011, the OG Voice Coach performed a rendition of "Footloose" by Kenny Loggins at the Country Music Awards, putting his own unique country twist on the upbeat tune. The performance was decked out with awesome backup dancers, energetic instrumentals, and even a smoke machine. Better yet: At the end, he was accompanied by Loggins himself! Check out the electrifying performance here.
About "Footloose" by Kenny Loggins
"Footloose" was released in 1984 and was a single off the smash-hit movie musical of the same name. The film tells the story of a small town that has made dancing illegal. The song reached the number-one Billboard Hot 100 spot in 1984 and has become one of Loggins' signature hits.
In 2011, a remake of the movie Footloose was released, and Blake Shelton recorded a cover for the soundtrack. Shelton's cover reached the number 63 position on the Hot Country Songs chart that year, and the tune is accompanied by a totally meta music video (which you can watch here).
"Footloose" song lyrics
Been working so hard
I'm punching my card
Eight hours, for what?
Oh, tell me what I got
I gotten this feeling
That time's just holding me down
I'll hit the ceiling
Or else I'll tear up this town
Tonight I gotta cut loose, footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes
Please, Louise
Pull me up off my knees
Jack, get back
C'mon, before we crack
Lose your blues
Everybody cut footloose
You're playing so cool
Obeying every rule
Dig way down in your heart
You're burning, yearning for some
Somebody to tell you
That life ain't passing you by
I'm trying to tell you
It will if you don't even try
You can fly if you'd only cut loose, footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes
Ooh-wee, Marie
Shake it, shake it for me
Whoa, Milo
C'mon, c'mon let's go
Lose your blues
Everybody cut footloose
Cut footloose
(Oh-oh-oh-oh) cut footloose
(Oh-oh-oh-oh) cut footloose
We got to turn you around
(Second) you put your feet on the ground
(Third) now take a hold of your soul
I'm turning it loose, footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes
Please, Louise
Pull me up off my knees
Jack, get back
C'mon, before we crack
Lose your blues
Everybody cut footloose
Footloose (footloose), footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes
Please, Louise
Pull me up off my knees
Jack, get back
C'mon, before we crack
Lose your blues
Everybody cut, everybody cut
Everybody cut, everybody cut
Everybody cut, everybody cut
(Everybody) everybody cut footloose
