Camila Cabello Spills on Why She Looks Up to Gwen Stefani 'So Much'
Season 22 marks the "Señorita" singer's first time as a Coach on The Voice.
Filming is underway for The Voice Season 22, which premieres Monday, September 19 on NBC. Host Carson Daly already spilled that this year's Contestants are "maybe the best [he's] ever seen so far." This means that the Coaches—Blake Shelton, John Legend, Gwen Stefani, and Camila Cabello—are in for an incredibly competitive season once their teams face off.
Of course, that isn't stopping the Coaches from loving on each other. In particular Cabello, who is new to The Voice (though she appeared as an Advisor in Season 21), couldn't help but gush about Stefani in a new NBC Insider interview. (The former No Doubt front-woman and three-time Grammy winner is re-joining the coaching panel this year after a three-season hiatus.)
"I look up to Gwen Stefani so much, I mean in so many ways," Cabello told NBC Insider. "She represents the kind of Artist that I wanna be. I feel like she has been kind of genre-defying and genre-less and expectation-defying... I feel like I wanna take notes from her. She's such a cool Artist and so authentic."
Cabello also revealed some of her favorite tracks from Stefani's long list of hits.
"So many times in interviews I'm asked, 'What song do you wish you would have written?', and there's so many songs of hers and of No Doubt," she said. "Like 'Underneath It All' and 'Cool' and 'Sweet Escape', and obviously 'Hollaback Girl.' From so many different eras she's had so many incredible songs."
And as for Stefani's thoughts on Cabello? Though the two had never met before The Voice, they instantly got along.
"She's smart, cute, funny, witty, hardworking, smart—I said that already," Stefani said. "I think she's 'gonna be a great Coach. We had a great time doing the Blinds together, and I'm excited that she's here and I have a new friend."
Watch The Voice Season 22 this fall starting Monday, September 19 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. It will air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, as well. Catch up now on Peacock.
