Jesse Spencer Will Return for Chicago Fire's Season Finale—Here's What to Expect
It's a "critical time" for Casey and Brett's relationship.
Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) vowed to be the best man at Kelly Severide's (Taylor Kinney) wedding, and he's keeping that promise. Yes, this means Spencer will return for the Chicago Fire Season 10 finale after leaving the show in October 2021.
“We pretty much begged him, pleaded, and offered him the moon so that he would come back and do the finale. But he’s the greatest, and he was in even before we started all of that,” co-showrunner Derek Haas revealed to TVLine.
So, what can viewers expect from Casey's return? Remember, he moved to Oregon to look after his late best friend Andy Darden’s sons. His girlfriend, Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer), took an extended leave from work to help accommodate their long-distance relationship. She's been visiting him in Oregon on and off, and per co-showrunner Andrea Newman, Casey's return comes at a “critical time in his relationship with Brett."
As Newman teases, fans will “see Casey, who is in a very happy and content place in terms of [his] life [in Oregon], and the big question mark is his relationship with Brett.” But what does that mean?
We'll have to wait for the Season 10 finale (which hasn't started filming yet) to find out. "I can tell you that everybody is dying to see Jesse. I am dying to see Jesse,” Newman tells TVLine. “It’s going to be a very beautiful thing on the set to see that face up here. We’re all excited about it. I’m going to cry, I’ll tell you that.”
One Chicago is currently on a brief hiatus and will return Wednesday, May 11 to NBC. Catch up now on NBC.com.
