Darci Lynne's Cover of Billie Eilish's Barbie Song Will Have You Reaching for Tissues
The America's Got Talent Season 12 Winner posted the beautiful rendition of the song, "What Was I Made For?" on Instagram.
America's Got Talent Season 12 Winner Darci Lynne just proved that her vocal chops can shine through even without her puppets.
On August 11, the singer and ventriloquist took to her official Instagram page to share her singing a stunning rendition of "What Was I Made For?" by Billie Eilish. During her cover, she played some gentle piano chords while using a breathy tone and heavenly vibrato. She sang the introspective lyrics, immersing herself in the music. Even though the tune has a melancholy vibe, Lynne turned her head towards the camera and gave a slight smirk when the cover was over, ending things on an upbeat note.
"I’ll say it again, this is a beautifully written song," Lynne wrote in the caption.
What to know about "What Was I Made For?" by Billie Eilish
Written for the Barbie movie soundtrack, the piano ballad "What Was I Made For?" was released in July 2023, and rose to the number 14 position on the Billboard Charts. In an interview with Billboard, Eilish revealed that the lyrics follow the journey of Barbie's character in the film, but reflect on her own life experience as well.
"I was purely inspired by this movie and this character and the way I thought she would feel, and wrote about that," she told the outlet. "I absolutely was writing about myself, but I was thinking about myself from a third person,” she also said.
