Why Niall Horan Tried to Call Blake Shelton After Ephraim Owens’ 4-Chair Audition
Get the cowboy on speed dial!
Ephraim Owens’ infectious energy didn’t take long to captivate all four Coaches when he turned up from his Indianapolis home to audition for Season 24 of The Voice. His soulfully pumped-up version of Labrinth’s “Beneath Your Beautiful,” in fact, made Gwen Stefani more of an instant Coach-turned-fan than even Owens himself might’ve bargained for.
Stefani and fellow Coach Niall Horan were the first to smash the big red button early into Owens’ soaring set, though it didn’t take long for him to earn an enviable Four-Chair Turn after John Legend and Reba McEntire also enthusiastically swung around. When it was all over, though, Stefani was downright ready to wear her admiration right on her sleeve — or, at least, where her sleeve should be, if she hadn’t already jumped to her feet and shed her overcoat in a sign of ultimate respect.

“Oh my gosh, who are you?” Stefani gushed before throwing off her coat like a giddy fan who’d fallen under Owens' vocal spell. “Let me just take this off so you can see beneath my beautiful!”
Horan couldn’t resist the chance to do a little playful long-distance tattling on his Season 24 Coach colleague. Without missing a beat, he whipped out a phone like he had longtime The Voice Coach (and Stefani’s real-life husband) Blake Shelton on speed dial. “Shelton!” he barked into the speaker, jokingly. “She’s at it again!”

On the serious side, though, Owens’ performance really did have all four Coaches fully in the palm of his hand. “I love your voice so much,” Stefani told him. “You kind of have this soulfulness, but this like rock side to you, too. I just feel super strong that you should be on Team Gwen!”
