Everything to Know About Twisted Metal Star Anthony Mackie
The Marvel Cinematic Universe star plays the lead in Peacock's new adaptation of the hit video game series.
John Doe, the protagonist of Peacock’s new action-comedy series Twisted Metal, has amnesia and doesn't remember who he is, but that doesn’t stop him from accepting a dangerous courier job driving a package across a Mad Max-esque post-apocalyptic wasteland. If you need help remembering who Anthony Mackie is, though, we’ve got you covered.

Mackie plays John Doe in the show, an adaptation of the Twisted Metal video game series which premieres exclusively on Peacock on July 27. John Doe is a character in the games, which have players choose a driver and compete in a demolition derby inside a tricked-out car, though the Peacock TV show’s version of the character appears to be fairly distinct from the games’ takes. What they share in common is a lack of memory.

What Else Has Anthony Mackie Been In?
Mackie is best known for playing Sam Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He made his first appearance in the franchise in 2014’s Captain America and the Winter Soldier, where his Falcon, a superhero with an advanced wingsuit, became an ally to Captain America. Mackie reprised the role in subsequent MCU movies, and as of the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, his character has gotten a name change and he is now the new Captain America. Mackie will play Cap again in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World, which is set to come out next year.
His filmography is much bigger than the MCU, though. Mackie’s first film appearance came in 2002 when he had a part in the Eminem-led 8 Mile. Two years later he had roles in The Manchurian Candidate, Million Dollar Baby, and Brother to Brother, the last of which netted him an independent spirit award nomination.

Perhaps Mackie’s best-known film aside from his stint in the MCU was his supporting role in the Best Picture-winning 2008 war drama The Hurt Locker.
Some of Mackie’s other film credits include The Adjustment Bureau, Notorious, and The Woman in the Window.
Twisted Metal is not Mackie’s first time on TV, either. In addition to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, he was also the lead of season two of Netflix’s sci-fi series Altered Carbon, and he led an episode of Black Mirror as well.
Who Are Anthony Mackie’s Co-Stars in Twisted Metal?
Mackie’s joined by a great cast in Twisted Metal, including Stephanie Beatriz, Neve Campbell, Thomas Haden Church, and Samoa Joe and Will Arnett, who provide the body and voice, respectively, of the Twisted Metal franchise’s most iconic character, a killer clown named Sweet Tooth. An early clip of the series shows Mackie’s John Doe fighting with Sweet Tooth and it not going exceptionally well for him.
