Our favorite troupe of animatronic mascots are back and deadlier than ever in the official teaser trailer for Five Nights at Freddy's 2. The hotly-anticipated video game sequel — produced by Blumhouse and released by Universal Pictures — will begin the bloodbath exclusively in theaters this December.

Emma Tammi returns as director for the second installment, whose screenplay by Freddy's creator Scott Cawthon continues the story of security guard Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson), his little sister Abby (Piper Rubio), and police officer Vanessa Afton (Elizabeth Lail). And, of course, Matthew Lillard (who signed up for a total of three movies based on the hit games) a reprises his role as William Afton, Vanessa's father and the sinister founder of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza.

"We’re definitely excited to keep making more movies in this world, should we be lucky enough to do that," Tammi said in 2023 while in conversation with Variety. "This one was tied into the first game, and we would probably focus on tying the second one into the second game, and so on and so forth. But anything could happen. We’ll have to see."

The teaser footage also confirms an appearance from actor Wayne Knight (otherwise known as Newman from Seinfeld and Dennis Nedry from Jurassic Park) as an ill-fated school principal or teacher. Poor dude can never catch a break in horror flicks.

The first Five Nights at Freddy's (currently streaming on Peacock) proved to be a box office smash upon its release in the fall of 2023, grossing nearly $300 million worldwide, while also making a simultaneous debut on streaming. That impressive haul made Freddy's the most successful horror movie of 2023.
