"Since March Madness is happening, I thought it would be fun to pick 16 new books. The sweet 16," he explained. "And then we're going to have a bracket face-off. For no reason, they're just going to battle each other out, and see what books are going to win."

On March 29, Fallon revealed the results from the first round of voting and which books would be advancing to the the next level.

"We are currently in the middle of our Fallon Book Club Spring Read contest," Fallon told the Tonight Show audience. "In the spirit of March Madness, we started out with 16 books, and we voted all week long. We found out we got over 420,000 votes, which is fantastic. People want to read. Now it's time to take a look at the eight books that are moving into the next round."

Fallon brought out the books moving onto the Elite Eight and said, "By the way, I should remind you, I haven't read any of these books," noting that he is going to read along with the rest of America once the winner is crowned.

"All these books would be great, but that thin one in the middle is kind of interesting. That one's got a little buzz to it." he joked, pointing out the thinnest of the titles, Grief Is for People by Sloane Crosley.

"Any of these eight. They're all fantastic books," he added.
