What is HIM? First Details, Poster for Jordan Peele's Next Horror Movie Project
Take a freaky peek at the next horror project from the Oscar-winning mind behind Get Out and Nope.
An ambitious young athlete with big football dreams… and the older, legendary QB1 who runs the isolated sports camp where those dreams take on a strange and terrifying shape. That story setup forms the intriguingly creepy field of play for HIM, the newest Universal Pictures fright flick produced by horror-movie mastermind Jordan Peele coming to theaters everywhere beginning September 19.
Co-produced by Peele under his Monkeypaw Productions banner and directed by Justin Tipping (Kicks, Joe vs. Carole), HIM has just released its very first poster tease to give fans a glimpse into the movie’s dark themes. And as you can quickly gather from the freaky football image below, HIM is shaping up to be something more than just your conventional sports flick.

As the above image suggests, HIM definitely promises a heavy price to pay for its upstart young athlete — played by Tyriq Withers (The Game, Tell Me Lies) — to achieve breakout stardom. Above an ominous message that “greatness demands sacrifice,” the simple-but-evocative poster shows a football encased in a museum-glass box, dripping droplets of blood onto the pedestal platform below.
We’ve known for a while now that HIM (formerly titled GOAT) promises to upend audiences’ expectations, to unsettling effect, about taking athletic success to the next level. Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions (via The Wrap) bills HIM as “an anti-sports horror movie” that “centers on a promising young football player who is invited to train at the isolated compound of a dynasty team’s aging QB1.” Universal’s recently-teased official synopsis further describes HIM as “a blood-chilling journey into the inner sanctum of fame, power, and the pursuit of excellence at any cost.”

Who stars in HIM?
Withers is set to play the film’s upstart young football star, a protégé who’s “invited to train at the isolated compound of a dynasty team’s aging QB1.” Marlon Wayans (Fifty Shades of Black, the Scary Movie franchise) will play the movie’s legendary older quarterback and mentor, alongside Julia Fox (Uncut Gems, No Sudden Move), Tim Heidecker (First Time Female Director, Us), comedian Jim Jefferies (The Jim Jefferies Show), plus hip-hop standouts Guapdad 4000 and Grammy-nominated artist Tierra Whack, both making their feature film debuts.
The Oscar-winning Peele (Nope, Us, Get Out) is co-producing HIM in partnership with Ian Cooper (Nope, Us), Win Rosenfeld (Candyman, Lovecraft Country), and Jamal M. Watson (Hala, Sprinter) for Monkeypaw Productions, while David Kern (The Bikeriders, Flamin' Hot) and Monkeypaw's Kate Oh are serving as executive producers.
Tipping will direct HIM from a screenplay by Zack Akers & Skip Bronkie (co-creators of the science fiction crime series Limetown), whose treatment earned a coveted spot on the annual Black List of best unproduced screenplays back in 2022. You can follow HIM and all the movie’s future teases and trailers across social media through the #HimMovie hashtag.
