Hear Teen Kaylee Shimizu’s “Insane," “Supernatural” High Notes That Won Her Knockout
Three 4-Chair Contestants enter the ring, but only one can emerge victorious.
Seventeen-year-old wunderkind Kaylee Shimizu continued to impress on Season 24 of The Voice as three-way Knockouts officially kicked off Monday evening, November 6. The tremendously talented teen went up against her fellow Team Legend members Caleb Sasser and Mara Justine, both of whom also managed to nab 4-Chair Turns during the Blind Auditions.
“I’ve never sung this song before because of how challenging it was, and I just wanted to make sure I was ready. But I feel like I’m ready," Shimizu confessed to Legend and Mega Mentor Wynonna Judd. The latter was absolutely gobsmacked by the young woman, stating that her abilities "are so freakin' good, it's scary."

Shimizu continued, "I can connect this song to my singing journey because I’ve been singing since I was 7 and I’ve done a lot of auditioning, a lot of performing. And I’ve gotten turned down by multiple things. I was like, ‘Is singing even for me?’ Before I graduated high school, I cried to my parents, and I was like, ‘Mom, I’m so scared, I just want to be successful, I want to make it out in the world. How did you guys do it at such a young age?’ Because they had me at 16 and they had a house at 23. I always remind myself, ‘You’ll be fine, you’ll be alright.’ I feel like with each stage of this competition, I am growing even more. This is what this competition’s about, getting better every time you sing because you just want more for yourself.”
Inside Kaylee Shimizu's Knockouts win on The Voice Season 24
While Legend had nothing but praise for all three Knockout Contestants, Shimizu came out as the clear winner.
"There's a lot of richness and warmth and body to your voice," Legend said. "It's just supernatural that it comes out of your body at the same time. That you're hitting those high notes...it's actually insane."

No Coach chose to steal Sasser, so he was sent home. However, Justine had her goodbye speech cut short when Gwen Stefani and Niall Horan both pushed their Steal buttons at the exact same time. This resulted in a friendly scuffle between the two Coaches Who Justine picks as her Coach will be revealed in the November 7 episode of The Voice.
