Kelly Clarkson's Cover of 'Real Love' by Mary J. Blige Is Sensational
Of course it is!
Kelly Clarkson, Host of the always-entertaining Kelly Clarkson Show, did us proud with her latest Kellyoke: a cover of the R&B classic "Real Love" by the reigning queen of R&B herself, Mary J. Blige.
The hit song was released in 1992 on Blige's debut studio album, What's the 411? and garnered massive success, marking the singer's first ascent to the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Successfully covering such a well-known track isn't nearly as easy as Clarkson makes it look, but the epic songstress did it with grace and artistry. Clarkson's cover strikes the perfect balance by honoring the original spirit and shape of the song while also taking creative rhythmic and melodic liberties that make it her own.
It's easy to see why The Kelly Clarkson Show was nominated for a whopping 9 Daytime Emmy Awards this year. She won two last year, and in her acceptance speech, Clarkson said, "Thank you so much everybody for voting for me. I would love to accept the award just for me, but honestly, I think everybody that's ever done a show like this knows there's a whole heap of people standing around behind the cameras. And our staff and making me look good and sound good and getting these brilliant stories and heartfelt stories that we get to share with everybody, and thank you to my band...I thank you for the award, but honestly, so many people are deserving of this—not just me."
