Kelly Clarkson's Cover of 'Survivor' by Destiny's Child Would Make Beyoncé Proud
Kelly Clarkson and Destiny's Child? A match made in heaven!
Throwback alert! Kelly Clarkson just covered an iconic 2000s hit by the girl group Destiny’s Child–and it's everything we could have ever dreamed of.
On September 26, Clarkson sang a powerful rendition of “Survivor” by DC on The Kelly Clarkson Show. During her performance, she paid homage to Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams in the best way–with strong vocals and an unbreakable flow. “I’m a survivor, I’m not 'gonna give up, I’m not gonna stop, I’m gonna work harder,” Clarkson sang, sending an impactful message about female empowerment. This particular version included some upbeat backup singers and an edgy guitar riff that gave the tune a slightly more rock-and-roll vibe.
Afterwards, Clarkson asked the audience to put their hands together for her talented accompanying musicians, who are cleverly named “My Band, Y’all." She also gave a shoutout to her backup performer Micayla De Ette, who she discovered during her Kellyoke search this Summer!
“Survivor” was the 2001 lead single from Density Child’s third album of the same name, and it's one of the group’s biggest hits. The lyrics are about not letting anyone else bring you down, a theme that Clarkson knows how to embody perfectly. Many songs in her own catalog, like "Since U Been Gone," have a similar message. She literally has a track called "Miss Independent," people!
