Kelly Clarkson Took Us Back to the '80s With This Pitch-Perfect Janet Jackson Cover

Kelly Clarkson sure knows how to make people want to get up and dance! On March 21, the songstress and talk show host took to the Kellyoke stage to perform a rendition of the 1986 tune “When I Think of You” by the one and only Janet Jackson.
The tune kicked off with a funky bass groove as bright red lights flashed behind Clarkson. “Ooh baby, anytime my world gets crazy, all I have to do to calm it is just think of you,” she sang to the beat while giving a sly wink to the crowd.
“Cause when I think of you baby, nothing else seems to matter,” she crooned to the upbeat tune while swaying to the rhythm. “Cause when I think of you baby, all I think about is our love,” she riffed in a perfect R&B tone.
“I just get more attached to you when you hold me in your arms and squeeze me, and you leave me making me blue,” she continued with passion.
“Its when I think of you, baby, nothing else seems to matter, cause when I think of you baby, all I think about is our love,” she repeated while the enthusiastic audience was seen on their feet, bouncing up and down.
“I’m so in love, I just think of you,” Clarkson sang gently while the backup singers harmonized with her, and the stage changed its aesthetic to soothing violet lighting. “When you’re not around, oh, when I think of you,” she then hit a gorgeously clear high sustained note.
Then, she shook things up by doing a signature power belt while repeating the lyrics “so in love” and impressively flipping back into her head voice to bring the performance to an epic conclusion.
Clarkson is no stranger to putting her own unique spin on classic hits from 80s legends. In February 2023, she brought her ultra-strong voice to the Kellyoke stage yet again for a show-stopping cover of “1999” by Prince.
