SNL's Kenan Thompson Will Host the 2022 Emmy Awards
It's his first time hosting the ceremony.
The 74th Emmy Awards officially has its Host! The 2022 ceremony will be emceed by Saturday Night Live's Kenan Thompson.
When the iconic sketch show (which earned nine Emmy nods this year) returns to NBC this fall, it will mark Thompson's 20th season, only strengthening his record as the longest-running cast member in SNL history history. The comedian has also previously racked up two Emmy nominations himself for SNL and his hit series Kenan.
“Being a part of this incredible evening where we honor the best of the television community is ridiculously exciting, and to do it on NBC—my longtime network family—makes it even more special,” he said in a statement. “Like all TV fans, I can’t wait to see the stars from my favorite shows.”
Jen Neal, the executive vice president of live events for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said in a statement, “Kenan is well-regarded as one of funniest, likable, and accomplished performers of the last two decades, and his tenure on Saturday Night Live speaks for itself. We know he’ll bring an excitement and professionalism to the Emmy Awards that a show of this stature deserves.”
The awards show is set to air on Monday, September 12 at 8/7c on NBC. You'll also be able to stream it live on Peacock. In addition to SNL, Late Night With Seth Meyers, The Voice, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and This Is Us all earned nominations. Tune in to see if one of your favorites takes home the win.
