Why Gwen Stefani Used Her Block of the Season During Kevin Hawkins' Audition
The Dallas native earned the night's only Four-Chair Turn from the Coaches.
There's nothing quite like a Four-Chair Turn performance on The Voice , and fans were lucky enough to witness one during September 20's Blind Audition episode.
From the first note of his Blind Audition, it was clear Kevin Hawkins' talent would cause some in-fighting amongst the Coaches. Seconds into his powerhouse performance of Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely," Gwen Stefani turned her chair only to be followed by John Legend just moments later. But in a twist of events, Stefani used her Block of the season on Legend, meaning Hawkins was prevented from picking the "All of Me" singer as his Coach. Camila Cabello and, eventually, Blake Shelton followed, and Hawkins had each star vying for him.
"A piano teacher who sings Stevie Wonder, and I don't have a chance to fight for him," Legend said. "I wish I could work with you, Kevin."
In response, Stefani joked, "I just wanted to make sure you got the right Coach...Your voice, it sounds like a record, it sounds like a Grammy performance, such an amazing tone. I can tell that this is your absolute dream moment, and I'm so happy for you, and you're 'gonna shine on this stage."
Shelton had his own technique when it came to winning over Hawkins. "I'm here to tell you that I'm the next closest thing to John Legend on this particular season," he said. "Come on, Kevin, shock people!"
In the end, Hawkins went with an unexpected choice and chose #TeamBlake, (who has eight victories under his belt). We can't wait to see what he brings to The Voice in the coming weeks.
