Kodi Lee's Cover of "Stand by Me" Might Be His Most Soulful Yet
The America's Got Talent Season 14 winner expressed his fondness for the song in a new Instagram video.
We'll stand by Kodi Lee any day.
On August 15, the America's Got Talent Season 14 Winner took to his official Instagram page to share a video of himself singing a passionate cover of the '60s classic "Stand by Me" by Ben E. King. In the clip, he played some chords on his grand white piano with ease while he riffed the lyrics with a slight rasp in his voice. When the chorus hit, he reached the high notes perfectly, ending the cover with a confident chord.
"Surprise! I love this song by Ben E. King!" Lee wrote in the caption.

About "Stand by Me" by Ben E. King
Released in 1961, "Stand By Me" reached the number-four position on the Billboard charts that year and has since become a soul standard. In 1986, it charted again at the number-nine position after being featured in the film of the same name. The song was inspired by gospel music and was written by King when he was a member of the band The Drifters. The band originally passed on the song, and when King recorded it as a solo artist, it became his biggest hit to date.
In 2021, Rolling Stone placed the song on the 131 position on its "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list. It has since been covered by the likes of John Lennon, Green Day, Otis Redding, Tracy Chapman, Florence + the Machine, Snoop Dogg, and more.
