Mandy Moore Talks 'Very Emotional' Last Days Filming This Is Us in New Interview
The actress and her co-stars have finished filming the drama after six seasons.
Nearly a week after she filmed her last-ever scene of This Is Us, Mandy Moore (Rebecca) stopped by the Today show, opening up to Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb about her final days on set.
"I don't think I fully processed it yet, like I get emotional thinking about it," Moore said. "It was probably more emotional being on set for a lot of my other friends' last day. I was there for Susan [Kelechi Watson] and for Chris Sullivan. Sterling [K. Brown] and Chrissy [Metz] and Justin [Hartley] shot the next day, but Milo [Ventimiglia] and I wrapped together and Chrissy, Susan, and Sterling all stayed around a couple hours after they were done with work to watch Milo and I wrap. That's how we feel about one another."
On May 5th the actress even took to Instagram to share a heartwarming photo of the moment after she and Ventimiglia filmed their last scene. Captured by Brown, the snap shows the two embracing one another, honoring their time spent playing the beloved Rebecca and Jack Pearson since Season 1. Moore also opened up to Hager and Kotb about the close bond she's established with her co-stars over the past six years.
"We are such a family unit, and we have been from the very beginning," she said. "I miss my friends, my family already. I think we are all each other's biggest champions. The fact that we've done six seasons, 106 episodes together, and I think we all collectively feel like, 'Wow, the quality of the work never wavered. And we're just proud of each other and support each other."
While at the Today studio, the 38-year-old also showed off her singing chops. Moore's new album, In Real Life, drops May 13, and she's setting out on a country-wide tour beginning June 10. During the the morning show's live broadcast, she performed her latest single "Four Moons."
"To have been doing this for 23 years now, to still have a career to speak of, to me that kind of longevity is something I never could have imagined for myself," she said. "I started out as a pop star back in the late '90s where that was the thing. I had no creative control, I didn't write my music. So now to jump forward two decades and being in the driver's seat of what I'm saying and how it's presented to the world is everything."
This Is Us fans were treated to a heartbreaking (but beautiful) Mandy Moore musical moment during Season 6, Episode 13. Moore as Rebecca performed a song called The Forever Now" at Kate's wedding. The track's piano riff even mirrors the drama's closing theme music. It's currently available on all streaming platforms.
