Mark-Paul Gosselaar Reveals the One Wish He Had for the Saved by the Bell Reboot
Mark-Paul Gosselaar is spilling some details about revisiting Bayside High in a new interview with NBC Insider, including what it was like to work old friends from Saved by the Bell.
It's no secret Mark-Paul Gosselaar has range. The actor is known for playing the popular, fourth-wall breaking California teen Zack Morris on the sitcom Saved by the Bell, but now, he's tackling a dark, sinister character in NBC's missing-persons drama Found.
However, Gosselaar did recently revisit the character Zack. When it came to playing Zach again in the reboot on Peacock, Gosselaar told NBC Insider he thought the new version of Saved by the Bell was a fantastic show. It aired for two seasons after premiering in 2020.
Did Zack Morris end up where Mark-Paul Gosselaar expected?
The Peacock Original found Gosselaar’s Zack Morris first as the governor of California and later even popping up as a teacher at Bayside High.
“I never expected it,” Gosselaar said. “I was pleasantly surprised with Tracey Wigfield — she was the creator of the reboot — where she took that character and the rest of the characters.”
His only desire for the show? More seasons, of course.
“The only disappointment that I have is that we only got two seasons,” Gosselaar said. “I really wish we could have done more.”

The reimagined series featured original stars of the show like Elizabeth Berkley Lauren and Mario Lopez, as well as new cast members during its run.
Filming the reboot was a great time, according to the actor. He even got to direct an episode of the show.
“It was such joy to work with, you know, my past friends on the show and then the new, current crop of actors that played our children and some of the other characters,” Gosselaar said.
Mark-Paul Gosselaar Talks NBC’s Found
Gosselaar’s co-star on Found, Shanola Hampton (Shameless), praised his abilities on a set: “He’s a fantastic director,” Hampton told NBC Insider.
Hampton plays Gabi Mosely, a kidnapping survivor who works as a public relations specialist finding missing people along with her crisis management team … and the man who once abducted her and held her captive, Sir (played by Gosselaar).

The new drama was recently renewed for a second season, and Gosselaar is keeping his “fingers crossed” one day he can direct an episode of Found for the first time.
The pair also gave a shout-out to their fellow cast member Kelli Williams who plays Margaret Reed, a colleague whose son previously went missing.
“Williams is also a fantastic director,” Gosselaar said. “[I'm] hoping that she can get a shot at directing one of these.”
