A New Sitcom Created by Mike O'Malley Is Coming to NBC
The comedy stars Jon Cryer and Donald Faison.
NBC has picked up a new untitled comedy sitcom for its next broadcast season. The plot follows the story of divorced couple Jim and Julia who are focused on raising their children after Julia falls in love with the owner of Jim’s favorite sports team.
The show is created by actor and writer Mike O’Malley from The Good Place, Glee, and My Name is Earl. The lead character is Jon Cryer of Two and a Half Men fame, who plays Jim, a “sarcastic but good natured” compliance officer who has little conflict in his life and lots of “warmth and laughter, ”according to Deadline. Other characters include actress Abigail Spencer, who plays Julia, a successful owner of a crisis firm. Donald Faison from Scrubs is Trey, Julia’s new fiancé and the owner of the Boston Celtics and an MIT alumni. Finn Sweeney (American Crime Story) and Sofia Capanna (Bucktown) also play Jim and Julia’s children.

The show is being produced by Lionsgate Television and Universal Television, a division of NBC’s Universal Studio Group. The production team includes Tom Werner, who has worked on shows such as Rosanne, That 70s Show, and 3rd Rock From The Sun. Other executive producers are Wyc Grousbeck (who is the owner of the Boston Celtics), Emilia Fazzalari, and George Geyer.
