How to Watch

Watch The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

In 2012, the former The Voice Coach (Seasons 11 & 13), put a unique spin on her godmother Dolly Parton's hit "Jolene." During the performance, Cyrus used the perfect amount of rasp in her voice. Her voice climbed to the high notes with ease while she pulled off some impressive riffs.

The song is a frequent favorite for Cyrus to cover, as she also performed another show-stopping rendition at the 2019 Glastonbury festival, and again with Parton herself during the epic Miley's New Years Eve party special in 2022

What to know about "Jolene" by Dolly Parton

One of Parton's biggest hits to date, "Jolene" is a single off of her 1973 album of the same name. Lyrically, it tells the story of Parton pleading with a woman named Jolene, fearful that her husband is going to fall in love with her. The song reached the number one position on the Billboard Country Songs chart, and in 2021, Rolling Stone listed it on the 63rd position on its "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list. According to the outlet, Parton was inspired to write the song after a bank teller kept flirting with her husband.

"He just loved going to the bank because she paid him so much attention. It was kinda like a running joke between us,” Parton said.

Other covers of the song include versions by The White Stripes, Lil Nas X, Pentatonix, and more. AGT 17 Finalists Chapel Hart auditioned with their own original song, "You Can Have Him, Jolene", which they wrote as an homage to the original. It earned them a Golden Buzzer and praise from Parton herself.
