Five juicy episodes in and NBC’s hot legal drama Suits LA has been a gripping reminder that court proceedings exact a toll – on the accused, their inner circle, and the lawyers trying to make their case. That’s not easy for attorneys whose clients fudge the truth and colleagues aren’t always 100% helpful. It’s no wonder they’re called trials.
Ask Ted Black (Stephen Amell), who’s rolled up his dapper sleeves and relied on his gut instinct and sharp legal savvy to represent Lester Thompson (Kevin Weisman), a Hollywood producer facing a murder charge for allegedly killing his business partner.
In the past three episodes, Lester’s murder case has been a roller coaster for Ted. It turned out that the filmmaker’s wife, Val (Kristen Hager), was having an affair with the victim. That’s called motive. There was a chance that Val could be compelled to testify. That’s called trouble. Lester, meanwhile, has proven to be totally unreliable when it comes to telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. That’s a disaster.

According to a brief synopsis of the latest installment, Erica (Lex Scott Davis) and Kevin (Troy Winbush) keep a secret from Ted about Lester. Secrets tend to come back to haunt you, and if that suggest that Lester’s case is about to get cloudier not clearer for Ted, an NBC sneak-peek teaser puts it another way. “He’s in the middle of the trial of his life,” a character declares about Ted. “And he’s losing.”
The need to know where Lester’s trial and tribulations take Ted has escalated. The same goes for getting a better handle on Ted’s past in New York. This slice of his history has come into focus in flashbacks, including one featuring the presence of none other than Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht). We’d be lying if we said we didn’t want more of that.
