Nick Gehlfuss Wrote the Sweetest Song for Jesse Lee Soffer's Chicago P.D. Exit
The Halstead brothers always bring a smile to your face.
Fans always get excited for One Chicago crossover moments, but the brotherhood between Chicago P.D.'s Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Chicago Med's Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) is truly exceptional.
The Halstead brothers always have each other's back, and as two of the Windy City's most diligent emergency personnel, it makes sense that the actors have grown quite close throughout the years. While Soffer and Gehlfuss have had numerous nail-biting crossover plots throughout their 8 Seasons together, it came to an end when Jay shockingly left Chicago after turning in his badge this season on Chicago P.D.
The Halstead brothers now have a long-distance situation, much like Jay has with his wife Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos). But that doesn't mean the bond between the two is breaking up anytime soon. That was immediately clear when Soffer took to Instagram to post the heartwarming tribute Gehlfuss made for him in honor of his exit, complete with a sweet serenade. That's right: he's also a talented musician.
"Take ten seconds and listen to Nicky," Soffer captioned the video. "It’ll warm your heart ❤️ Love you bro."
Gehlfuss' lovely lyrics? “You’ve been a great fake brother to a real fake doctor. Yes, the best fake brother a guy could ask for. Maybe years down the road we could change our roles and play real lovers. So long, my great fake favorite brother.”
If that wasn't enough to make Chi-Hards everywhere happy, Gehlfuss ended the video by adorably telling Soffer, “Love you, I mean it.”
It's safe to say that the entire One Chicago family misses Soffer dearly, but as his longtime on-screen sibling, Gehlfuss' tribute hits a little harder. Especially with a song as catchy as this, Soffer is moving on from the franchise knowing that he's loved.
Watch Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med Wednesdays at 10/9c on NBC and the next day on Peacock.
