Every Coach of The Voice From Season 1 Through Season 27
From Blake Shelton to Snoop Dogg and everyone in between (including the return of Adam Levine).
The Coaches are key to The Voice: Their powerhouse vocals, competitive spirit, and coveted Four-Chair turning moments have made way for some extremely talented winners.
But part of the fun of the show — and the heart of the competition — is having Coaches from all across the industry and always at the top of their games. From EGOT-winners like John Legend and Jennifer Hudson to country music legends like Reba McEntire to the new generation of pop artists like Niall Horan, Artists benefit genuine advice from (and competition between) music industry icons with unique perspectives.
So which legends have battled it out in the Red Chairs over the course of 25 — and soon to be 27 — seasons?
Blake Shelton
Seasons 1-23
Not only is the country star the longest-serving Coach in the show's history (he's appeared on every single season since the first in 2011), he also has the most wins. Nine of Blake Shelton's mentees — Jermaine Paul (Season 2), Cassadee Pope (Season 3), Danielle Bradbery (Season 4), Craig Wayne Boyd (Season 7), Sundance Head (Season 11), Chloe Kohanski (Season 13), Todd Tilghman (Season 18), Cam Anthony (Season 20), and Bryce Leatherwood (Season 22) — have taken home the trophy.
Unfortunately, he announced in 2023 that Season 23 will be his last.
Adam Levine
Seasons 1-16 and 27
The Grammy-winning Maroon 5 frontman and OG Voice Coach was with the show for its first 16 seasons, until his exit in 2019. During his tenure, he won the show three times: Season 1 with Javier Colon; Season 5 with Tessanne Chin; and Season 9 with Jordan Smith.
Levine also developed a hilarious love-hate relationship with Shelton, and the two reunited when Maroon 5 performed during the show's Season 20 finale.
It was announced in June 2024 that Levine would be returning to his red chair for Season 27.
Christina Aguilera
Seasons 1-3, 5, 8, 10
The five-time Grammy winner was also one of the original Coaches. She became the first female Coach to take home a Voice title when Alisan Porter won the competition in Season 10.
She also served as a Battle Advisor for Team Gwen in Season 7.
CeeLo Green
Seasons 1-3, 5
Rounding out the four original Coaches of the series is CeeLo Green, who was a Coach for the first three seasons and then in Season 5.
He also served as a Battle Advisor to Team Shakira in Season 4, as a Top 8 Advisor to Team Blake in Season 8, and as a Battle Advisor to Team Adam in Season 15.
Shakira
Seasons 4, 6
In 2013, the "Hips Don't Lie" singer took Green's place in the show's signature spinning chair. Shakira then returned for Season 6 after he left.
Usher
Seasons 4,6
Though he only appeared on two seasons, Team Usher made its impact.
Usher currently holds the record for having the most contestants stolen by other coaches during the Battle Rounds: In Season 6, Shelton and Levin each stole three members of Team Usher in two rounds of Battles, for a total of six. Usher, however, stole Josh Kaufman from Team Adam, and the two of them took home the grand prize at the end of the season.
Usher returned in Season 8 as a Top 8 Advisor to Team Adam, in Season 17 as a Battle Advisor for Team Legend, and in Season 19 as a Key Advisor for all the teams.
Gwen Stefani
Seasons 7, 9, 12, 17, 19, 22, 24, 26
Gwen Stefani has joined The Voice six times as a Coach, occupying one of the red chairs in Seasons 7, 9, 12, 17, 19, 22, 24, and 26. The rocker and No Doubt lead singer won the competition in Season 19 with Carter Rubin.
She also appeared as a Battle Advisor for Team Blake in Season 10 and as a Top 8 Advisor for both Team Christina and Team Pharrell in Season 8.
Stefani and current husband Shelton met when she first joined The Voice as a Coach in 2014, but didn’t begin dating until 2015. They got engaged in October 2020 and were married in July 2021.
Pharrell Williams
Seasons 7-10
Everyone's favorite "Happy" crooner joined in Season 7 and served as a Coach for four consecutive seasons. He helped lead Sawyer Fredericks to victory in Season 8.
He first appeared on the show in Season 4 as a Battle Advisor for Team Usher.
Miley Cyrus
Seasons 11, 13
Cyrus got her very own red chair for two seasons, and was the youngest star to ever serve as a Coach at the time.
She first appeared on the show as a Key Advisor in Season 10.
Alicia Keys
Seasons 11-12, 14
Keys first appeared on the show in Season 7 as a Battle Advisor for Team Pharrell. She became a Coach in 2016 and served for three seasons.
She won big in Season 12 with R&B singer Chris Blue. And though she hasn't been a Coach since 2018, Keys made an appearance during the Season 21 finale as a guest performer.
Jennifer Hudson
Seasons 13, 15
After becoming the first female Coach to win The Voice UK(in Season 6 with Mo Jamil Adeniran) the now-EGOT winner brought her skills to the U.S. version, appearing as a Coach for two seasons.
Kelly Clarkson
Seasons 14-21, 23
Kelly Clarkson — who also hosts The Kelly Clarkson Show — began coaching in Season 14, remaining in her chair through Season 21. She later returned for Season 23.
She won the competition four times: in Season 14 with Brynn Cartelli; in Season 15 with Chevel Shepherd; in Season 17 with Jake Hoot; and in Season 21 with Girl Named Tom.
She first appeared on the show in Season 2 as a Team Blake Battle Advisor, and served as a Key Advisor in Season 13.
John Legend
Seasons 16-22, 24-25, 27
The EGOT-winning John Legend has coached on the show for nine seasons. He has one win under his belt with Season 16 folk singer Maelyn Jarmon.
It was announced in June 2024 that he would be returning to his Coach's chair in Season 27 after a one-season hiatus.
He first appeared on the show as Battle Advisor for Team Adam in Season 10.
Nick Jonas
Seasons 18, 20
The Jonas Brother and "Jealous" singer sat in the red chair for two seasons.
Nick Jonas first appeared on the show in Season 8 as a Battle Advisor for Team Christina.
Ariana Grande
Season 21
Ariana Grande replaced Jonas in Season 21st. And though Team Ariana didn't make it to the finale, that didn't stop her from making friends with Artists backstage and making killer fashion choices.
Camila Cabello
Season 22
Camila Cabello joined the show as a Coach for one season — right after having served as a Battle Advisor to Team Legend in Season 21.
"I could tell she was really good at it," Legend told NBC Insider in 2022. "In fact, I told her, 'If a Coach opening ever comes up, you should do it because you'd be great at it.'"
Niall Horan
Season 23-24
The former One Direction member joined The Voice as a Coach in Season 23, and is already having a blast with fellow Coach Blake Shelton, even as he’s tried to heighten the rivalry.
“We were all privately given one little stunt that we could use in the Blind Auditions. And my one was that I was able to, once they'd all done their pitches, I was able to have some alone time with the Contestant. And I was able to hit the button on everyone's chair, and they would spin back around,” Niall Horan told NBC Insider. “Even Blake was like, ‘How did you manage to do that?’ He was jealous. But yeah, it was a lot of fun.”
Chance the Rapper
Season 23, 25
The Grammy-winning Chicago artist joined The Voice as a Coach in Season 23 and came back for Season 25.
“I wanted to be a Coach on The Voice because I like giving platforms to young artists — especially people who are already seasoned in their trade and know what they’re doing but just need the right spotlight. I wanted to be a part of the process,” Chance the Rapper told NBC Insider.
Reba McEntire
Season 24-26
After appearing as a Battle Advisor early on in the show's run, and serving as the Mega Mentor in Season 23, Reba McEntire took the leap to Coach for Season 24, alongside Horan, Legend, and Stefani.
She won Season 25 with artist Asher HaVon, and is returning for Season 26.
Dan + Shay
Season 25
The pop country chart toppers, Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney, are the first ever duo to lead a team, meaning they shared Coaching duties for Season 25 alongside McEntire, Chance, and Legend.
Voice fans may have already recognizes them, though, as they served as Team Blake's Battle Advisors for Season 20.
Michael Bublé
Season 26-27
Grammy-award winning vocalist Michael Bublé — who got his start singing at nightclubs at just 16 years old — will take his seat in one of the Coaches' chairs for Seasons 26 and 27.
Fans might already be familiar with him: Bublé served as Battle Advisor to Team Blake in Season 3. (Shelton covered Bublé's song "Home" on his own own 2007 album, Pure BS, and performed it with Bublé in a 2008 concert.)
Snoop Dogg
Season 26
Snoop Dogg, whose birth name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., will also be joining The Voice as a Coach in Season 26. (Before then, however, he will serve as one of NBC’s hosts during the Summer Olympics in Paris and will be seen throughout the Games attending various competitions, visiting with athletes and their friends and families, and exploring city landmarks.)
Snoop previously appeared of The Voice as a Key Advisor in Season 20.
Kelsea Ballerini
Season 27
Country music star Kelsea Ballerini will be joining as a Coach in Season 27.
She is likely a familiar face to fans of The Voice: In Season 15, she served as the “fifth” Coach on The Voice's Comeback Stage, a spin-off web series in which she coached six contestants who had auditioned during the Blinds but weren’t selected by the four main Coaches. With Ballerini’s guidance, one artist was able earn a slot on the show, jumping straight to the Live Shows on Team Kelly.
Ballerini then served as an advisor for Team Kelly during Season 16's Battle Rounds and she stepped in for her as a Guest Coach during the Battles when Clarkson was under the weather.
