Why John Legend Called Omar Jose Cardona 'One of the Best Singers' in Voice History
The Orlando native brought down the house with Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive."
After Parijita Bastola took home the win in Team Legend's first Knockout Round of The Voice Season 22, one more lucky performer has been chosen to advance to Live Shows.
After Ian Harrison, Morgan Taylor, and Omar Jose Cardona faced-off with their respective song choices, it was Cardona who ultimately blew the Coaches away. The Orlando native chose the Imagine Dragons' 2012 hit "Radioactive," explaining that the track had a special meaning to him.
"Me and my brother are both in the industry, and I'm like the baby brother," he said. "I love this song. I think it's perfect for me right now because I'm stepping into a new place in my life. This song is for my brother. In high school, he convinced me to audition for musical theater and it was my first love of music and performing and it was all because of him."
Cardona gave everything he had during his performance and even earned a standing ovation from Camila Cabello.
"You have this giant dragon in you, but you know how to tame it," she said. "You just make it look so fun and exciting."
Gwen Stefani added, "Omar, you go into these places that I've never heard of before. It makes me want to see more and more and just throw songs at you and see what you can do with them."
But ultimately Legend, who said Cardona had "the voice of a rockstar," had the highest praise of the night.
"It's become clear that Omar is one of the best singers we've seen since I've been on the show," he said. "He puts so much power and soul into every performance, and that voice is just stunning."
