Battles have only just begun on The Voice, but already Team Reba is causing some serious sparks.

How to Watch

Watch The Voice on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Performing Patti LaBelle’s 1980s classic “New Attitude,” Ms. Monét and CORii turned the Coaches' heads during their Battle. Even during their rehearsal, the performance was so good, it put Coach Reba McEntire on the floor. “Oh my god,” someone jokingly said off-camera. “You killed Reba!”

“They look like they could be in the same band!” said an admiring John Legend after the performance. The Queen of Country certainly had a decision to make choosing between these two powerhouse performers. Read, below, to learn what went down.

From start to finish, no one questioned Ms. Monét and her “masterful” vocal turn, as Gwen Stefani put it. “I’m so literally blown away by you,” said the smitten Coach. “You are…masterful! And you’re being all, like, swaggy up there — I was like, ‘OK, she is just literally slaying.’ But then, CORii, you started to somehow lock into your voice. It was like, ‘Wow, she has range, and power!’ — It just kept getting better and better and better. You both have incredible stage presence [and] character.”

McEntire's admittedly anguished Ms. Monét pick was only the beginning of the post-performance intrigue. As CORii began her disappointed walk away from the stage, not one but two Coaches went with their instincts and smashed the big button to steal her back for a second chance.

Niall Horan and Stefani each made impassioned pitches to draft CORii to their side, with Horan especially starstruck at how far she’d come since the Blind Auditions.

“The night-and-day [difference] between the Audition thing is something that really excites me,”Horan confessed. “You were up against an unbelievable singer. I think you’ve got more strings to your bow than we think — and I’d be very excited to work with you.”

Stefani took a different tactic to winning CORii over, saying she needed a Coach (like her!) who could help her hone that undefinable “cool” factor.

“What I think I could help you with is just like a tweak — it’s like a little tweak to show you that you’ve got so much charisma. It’s just like, how do you tame it just a little bit so that you can be that much cooler and that much more 'you?'” Stefani said. “I wanna work with that, so I would love to have you on Team Gwen!”

Stefani’s approach worked its magic, because Team Gwen is where CORii ultimately decided to continue her still-unfolding story on The Voice

“Oh my gosh, I was so proud of you both,” beamed McEntire. “You came out with such confidence. You were a team. You could go on the road as a duet right now!”

How far will Ms. Monét and CORii (with her new Team Gwen status) advance as the competition rolls along? Find out by watching The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.
