How Alyssa Crosby “Really Stepped Up” & Got Chance’s Steal: "An Artist to Be Reckoned With"
If you sing well enough, sometimes you win even when you lose.
Season 25 of The Voice has entered the Battles stage, when two performers sing a song together in a sudden death elimination round. A single performance of a single song, shared with a competitor, is the only thing that decides who stays and who goes.
Alyssa Crosby and Asher HaVon, both from Team Reba, took to the stage during Episode 7 to perform a rendition of “We Don’t Need Another Hero” by Tina Turner. “It’s up-temp, forceful, dynamic. Any Tina Turner song is hard to sing, and I wanted to see what they could do with it,” said Coach Reba McEntire.

Alyssa Crosby’s performance during the Battles earned a Steal on The Voice
Crosby and HaVon traded verses of the Turner tune, starting mellow and ramping up to powerful, blasting notes in beautiful harmony. Every time HaVon turned up the volume, Crosby followed suit until both of them were belting with everything they had, and the performance was better for it.
“Asher, your tone is incredible, your control is incredible. Alyssa, when it started off, it was kind of shaky and I was like ‘oh no, this is about to be a landslide,’ and then you came through and you were keeping up,” said Chance the Rapper. “I’m leaning toward Asher, I think he’s going to do amazing things in the show, but Alyssa I’m surprised I didn’t turn for you in the Blinds. That was a great performance from both of you.”
Those sentiments were mirrored by Crosby’s own Coach, Queen Reba: “Alyssa, I turned for you because I believed in you, and you proved me right. You’re a great vocalist, you’ve got great stage presence.
And John Legend added to the compliment parade, saying, “That was so, so good. Alyssa, you’ve made it clear that you’re a real Artist to be reckoned with.”
Despite the nonstop accolades, Crosby was just edged out by teammate Asher HaVon for a spot in the Playoffs. Tossed off the good ship Reba McEntire, Crosby started to deliver her last words. “I’m so honored to have been able to have this opportunity with you,” she said before she was cut off by flashing lights. Chance the Rapper smashed his Steal button to swoop Crosby up for Team Chance.
“I stole Alyssa because she was going neck and neck with somebody who’s just a natural, God-given talent. When you can pull that out of yourself, to me that’s the quality of a star,” Chance said.
