Tom Ball Vocally Outdid Himself Singing Conchita Wurst's 'Rise Like a Phoenix'

Singer Tom Ball has never had a disappointing performance. He proved this with his cover of “Rise Like a Phoenix” by Conchita Wurst during the Britain’s Got Talent Season 15 Semi-Finals in 2022, where his voice soared to new heights.
“Waking in the rubble, walking over glass, neighbors say we're trouble, well that time has passed,” he sang while dramatic strings played in the background.
“Peering from the mirror, no, that isn't me, stranger getting nearer, who can this person be?” he crooned in a balanced, hushed tone.
“You wouldn't know me at all today, from the fading light I fly,” he continued, with the song building up in suspense.
Then, he erupted into the powerful chorus. “Rise like a phoenix, out of the ashes seeking rather than vengeance, retribution you were warned, once I'm transformed, once I'm reborn,” he sang while impressively switching from a high to low register.
“I rise up to the sky; you threw me down, but I'm gonna fly,” he sang the climax of the song, hitting an unreal sustained note.
“Rise like a phoenix, out of the ashes seeking rather than vengeance, retribution you were warned, once I'm transformed, once I'm reborn, you know I will rise like a phoenix, but you're my flame,” he sang the intense lyrics before flipping into some perfect falsetto on the finishing note.
As always, the audience and Judges were on their feet. “When we did the Auditions, we just really loved you on the day. We were thinking we should’ve given you a group Golden Buzzer,” Simon Cowell gushed, clearly blown away.
“I’ve come to learn over the years when you do these shows, is that judging a singer like yourself, it's how the singer makes you feel during the performance. And what it made me feel, particularly after I saw that film, is that I felt great. I just felt great for you. This is something you’re so passionate about. And I could see just the way you spoke, to kids in school, that you’ve got a really kind heart as well,” Cowell continued.
Ball finished in third place that season of BGT. He then went on to do some mind-blowing performances on America’s Got Talent: All-Stars.
