Newly-minted 2025 Academy Award winner Mikey Madison made her Saturday Night Live debut on March 29, 2025, and she did it right away: The actress appeared in the cold open, which is rare for a Host. Later in the night, Madison became a doctor, an eager acting student — and least expectedly — Squidward from SpongeBob SquarePants.

How to Watch

Watch Saturday Night Live Saturdays at 11:30/10:30c on NBC and Peacock, streaming next day on Peacock.

"As you can tell, I have a pretty relaxed vibe in real life, and I try to incorporate that into all my roles. Take a look," Madison said during her monologue, throwing to a montage of her TV and movie roles that found her in a string of violent scenes.

"So, just to clarify, those were two different characters who were lit on fire, and that's range," she joked.

Mikey Madison's twin brother was in the SNL audience

Madison also took a moment to shout out her twin brother, Miles Madison.

"I've always been really close with all my siblings, and, actually, my twin brother is here to support me," Madison, who has four siblings, said. "Let's see if you can guess which one of these guys is my twin brother?" The red-haired Miles smiled amidst a group of four men, second from right. "If you guessed the one who looks like Ron Weasley on testosterone, you win!"

The night included a sequel to Jenna Ortega's "Waffle House" sketch, and a sort-of sequel to "Bad Bunny Is Shrek."

"Group Chat Cold Open"

Group Chat Cold Open

Instead of reenacting the texting scandal in which national security advisor Mike Waltz added a journalist from The Atlantic to Trump officials' group Signal chat about bombing Yemen, SNL took another angle: After the event, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth accidentally sends more war plans to three teen girls (Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, and Mikey Madison).

Marcello Hernández's deranged acting teacher, introduced during Charli XCX's Season 50 episode, returns to dish out more bad advice to aspiring TV commercial stars, including his latest protégé (Madison).

What is Joe Jonas doing in this pretaped parody about New York's many lines for TikTok-famous food? Who knows, but A+ cameo regardless.

"Pop's Big Regret"

A mob boss lives out his dying dream of stand-up comedy (though he might've been able to survive his gunshot wounds if he didn't).

If you wondered whether this was an intentional sort-of-sequel to Bad Bunny's Shrek sketch, PDD's John Higgins was sure to give a literal nod to it during this one (and Ben Marshall might've stolen the show as SpongeBob).
