Notre Dame's Bowl Game Revealed: Irish to Face Oregon State in Sun Bowl
Breaking down everything we know about Notre Dame's 2023 bowl match-up.
The Notre Damę Fighting Irish have wrapped up a solid 9-3 season, and the waiting game is over to find out exactly where and when the team’s chance for a 10th win will come this bowl season.
Notre Dame’s in-season win total matches last year’s total wins, so if the Irish can win a bowl game, they’ll reach double digits on the season. The team dropped its biggest matchup of the year against Ohio State at home, along with losses to Louisville and Clemson. Some of the Irish’s biggest wins this year came against NC State, Duke and USC.

Quarterback Sam Hartman led Notre Dame this year, ending the regular season with 2,689 yards, 24 touchdowns and a QBR of 68.4. Audric Estime was the team’s leading rusher with 1,341 yards and 18 touchdowns. Chris Tyree led the team in receptions with 484 yards and three touchdowns.
What bowl game is Notre Dame playing in for 2023?
Notre Dame will play Oregon State in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl at 2:00 p.m. ET on Dec. 29 in El Paso, Texas.
Alabama's upset of Georgia in the SEC Championship, and the subsequent playoff shake-up that saw the Crimson Tide sneak into the playoff bracket at the expense of Florida State, sent shockwaves through most bowl game projections. The Irish were originally projected to potentially see LSU in a bowl game, which would've had LSU coach Brian Kelly facing his old team, but fallout from the playoff bracket shook up most of the expected match-ups once they were finally finalized on Sunday, Dec. 3.
When were 2023 bowl game selections announced?
Bowl matchups were officially announced on Sunday, December 3, 2023, after the conclusion of the various conference championship games.
