Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 14 ("Bar Time") was an action-packed rollercoaster, but where was Lieutenant Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) the entire time?

How to Watch

Watch Chicago Fire Wednesdays at 9/8c on NBC and next day on Peacock

Severide's been at the center of 13 years of Chicago Fire thrills, so it's always surreal to see the station without him. From his countless heroic rescues to his beloved relationship with fellow Fire fan favorite Lt. Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), Severide has become the beating heart of Firehouse 51.

"It's never lost on me how special it is to be a part of something with the longevity this has," Chicago Fire O.G. Kinney told Us Weekly in a May 2022 interview. "It's a testament to [series creator] Dick Wolf and the team of people he puts together."

Find out why Severide was M.I.A. on Season 13, Episode 14 ("Bar Time"), below.

Severide was absent from Firehouse 51 due to a CFD assignment taking him elsewhere that shift. He wasn't alone in being torn away from Firehouse 51; Chief Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) was also on the same assignment. Viewers got answers about Severide's whereabouts at the top of the episode after Stella asked about Pascal's absence. Mouch McHolland (Christian Stolte) revealed that Pascal had joined Severide and Squad in helping Firehouse 67 cover protests.

So worry not, Severide isn't far.

Severide may be briefly missing from the firehouse, but he's still happily going home to Stella. The One Chicago power couple has been thriving lately after beginning the adoption process in hopes of welcoming a child into their family. Severide has wanted to start a family with Stella for a while, but she was initially hesitant and weary about how it would transform her life.

"I think [for] Stella, she's just not ready yet," Mayo said in a September 2024 interview. "She has a bit of a perfectionism paralysis, right? Because she didn't come from a stable, happy home, there's a part of her that is like, 'I just don't want to mess a kid up. If we're going to have kids, I really want to do it well; I want to do it right.' And also her career means a lot to her. She doesn't want to have to give up what she's worked so hard for to be a mother."

Stella has since warmed up to the idea of raising a kid with Severide and asked him if he'd be interested in adoption so that she wouldn't need to overhaul her career. Severide is over the moon, and viewers couldn't be more excited to see Stellaride navigate this new chapter when he returns.
