"You were my friend," Watson wrote on Instagram. "And what a blessing in this life to have a friend called You. You LOVED being an actor, an artist, a forever student of life. What to know about Jasmine Cephas Jones, Ron Cephas Jones' daughter
Born in London, Jones attended a performing arts high school in New York City, and then went on to study at Berklee College of Music. Following in her father's footsteps, Jasmine chose to venture into showbusiness as well. “Both of my parents are artists, so I knew how hard it was," she told W Magazine of her choice to make a career in the entertainment industry. Her mother is jazz musician Kim Lesley. "I didn’t have glass over my eyes."
However, things ended up working out well for her. In 2016, she originated the role of Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds in Lin Manuel Miranda's smash-hit Broadway musical Hamilton, winning her a Grammy award for Best Musical Theater Album.
In 2018, Jasmine starred in the critically-acclaimed film Blindspotting, which tells the fictional story of a man who witnesses a fatal police shooting. She played Ashley, the level-headed partner one of on main characters, Miles.
Blindspotting was then made into a television series of the same name, where she reprised her role.
"It’s one of the most creative, fulfilling experiences I’ve ever done as an artist. I walk away from the show, and I’m a better artist because of it," Jasmine told Deadline of the experience.
Jasmine went on to win an Emmy Award in 2020 with her role as Tyisha in the mini-series #FreeRayshawn. Tyisha is the wife of the main character Rayshawn, a war veteran who attempts to protect his family from police by barricading himself in his apartment.

Throughout the years, Jones was very supportive of his daughter's career, and vice versa. The two even starred in the same film in 2018, titled Dog Days.
