Why Blake Shelton Blocked Gwen Stefani to Get Ansley Burns on His Team

He used his only Block of the season on Burns!

Gwen Stefani Talks Camila Cabello & Blake Shelton Rivalry On 'The Voice'

For her Blind Audition on the October 3rd episode of The Voice, 15-year-old Ansley Burns selected "Unchained Melody" by The Righteous Brothers, which she heard country queen LeAnn Rimes cover. It's a fitting track for the South Carolina teen, who wants to make country music—and, unsurprisingly, was thrilled when Blake Shelton turned his chair around for her.

How to Watch

Watch The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Gwen Stefani wasn't so thrilled, though. You see, the "Sweet Escape" singer also wanted Burns on her team, but Shelton used his only Block of the season to make sure she couldn't make that happen. Yes, Shelton used his Block on his own wife!

"My husband blocked me so I can't be your Coach," Stefani said. "But I'm so happy for you because [Blake] is one of the greatest guys in the whole world. Your tone, it was just so pretty."

"Angelic," Camila Cabello said, agreeing.

"I think because you're so young you have so much growth to do," Stefani added. "Blake's 'gonna really help you with that. I'm excited to see how you grow right in front of our eyes."

John Legend also had really sweet things to say. "You really sound wonderful, and when someone has the kind of range you have," America just falls in love.

"I'm so excited that I was able to get Ansley on my team," Shelton said. "The thing I love about Ansley's voice is she sounds youthful, which, obviously, she is. The fact that she's covering such a classic song tells me a lot about where she wants to go. I had to use my Block button against my wife, but that's how badly I wanted Ansley on my team. I blocked my own wife."

Will the strategy pay off? To find out, watch The Voice on NBC Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c and next day on Peacock.
