Will There Be a Season 2 of Long Bright River?
Amanda Seyfried plays Mickey Fitzpatrick, a Philadelphia cop investigating a series of murders while searching for her missing sister.
Peacock’s intense thriller Long Bright River left much to savor, and audiences are checking in to learn if another season is in store.
All eight episodes of the bingeable series, which dropped Thursday, March 13, 2025, are now available to watch on Peacock. Based on Liz Moore’s bestselling novel of the same name, the show boasts a talented cast — with Amanda Seyfried (Mean Girls, The Dropout) front and center — enhancing a police procedural about Philadelphia cop Mickey Fitzpatrick investigating a series of murders while grappling with her younger sister’s disappearance, as previously reported by NBC Insider.
The story was teased in the trailer during the lead-up to the series premiere.
Will there be a Season 2 of Long Bright River?
So far, there are no plans for a sequel for Long Bright River.
The show was originally described as a limited miniseries, and the Philly-based author has not announced a follow-up to the 2020 novel. Moore did, however, publish a separate book since, titled The God of the Woods.
What is Long Bright River about?
According to the series’ official description, “Long Bright River is a suspense thriller that tells the story of Mickey (Seyfried), a Philadelphia police officer patrolling a neighborhood hard-hit by the opioid crisis. When a series of murders hit the neighborhood, Mickey realizes that her personal history — her ongoing search for her missing younger sister – might be related to the case.”
Seyfried not only starred but served as executive producer on the series.
Nikki Toscano, the series' showrunner, executive producer, director, and series writer, called Long Bright River a “compelling” family drama, telling NBC Insider why she “immediately” wanted to adapt the book for the screen after reading the novel.
“The challenge of adapting this moving love story between two sisters as it elegantly weaves between the past and the present was thrilling, particularly as the history of this family’s past holds a critical key in solving the murder/mystery that unfolds in the present,” Toscano stated. “Equally compelling was the sense of place Liz brought into her novel, which I was excited about translating to screen, both as a writer and as a director.”
Moore and Toscano discussed in a statement from the streaming platform that Long Bright River told of the “collective power of an underserved community.”

Discussing the differences between the novel and the Peacock series, Toscano said in a March 6, 2025 interview with Muse TV that there were “twists and turns added” and that it was “all in service of what we wanted” out of the enthralling murder mystery.
What author Liz Moore hoped would be a takeaway from Long Bright River
Moore said she hoped the series would spark a conversation among viewers, especially regarding drug addiction, a central theme in the story. She aimed to raise awareness that substance use disorder was a medical condition that should be kept “separate from conversations about culpability or moral failings,” she told Muse TV.
Like the family featured in Long Bright River, it’s a topic that has touched so many American lives, Moore said.
“I also hope it opens conversations about what it’s like to love somebody who’s experiencing addiction,” the author continued. “I think, for better or worse, a lot of families in the U.S. and around the world will be able to relate to the family at the heart of Long Bright River.”
