Actor Bio
Charity Wakefield plays Cassandra King in the new NBC drama The Player.
Wakefield was recently seen in the critically acclaimed TV adaptation "Wolf Hall," based on the novels by Hilary Mantel. Earlier this year, she completed filming her guest-starring role in Bryan Fuller's Syfy pilot "High Moon." She also had a role alongside Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper in the Susanne Bier-directed "Serena," and appeared in the thriller "Scar Tissue." Next year she will be seen in the BBC production "Close to the Enemy," written and directed by Stephen Poliakoff.
Since making her small screen debut in 2004, Wakefield has appeared in many other TV productions, including "Sense and Sensibility," "Casualty 1907," "Casualty 1909" and "Any Human," which won for Best Miniseries at the 2011 BAFTA Awards.
On the film side, Wakefield was most recently was seen in John Roberts' romantic drama "Day of the Flowers," in which she starred opposite Eva Birthistle and Cuban dancer extraordinaire Carlos Acosta. An accomplished photographer, Wakefield organized an exhibition that showcased her work from behind the scenes on the film set in Havana, Cuba.
Wakefield also appeared in "The Raven" and starred in several short films. A budding filmmaker, Wakefield produced her own short documentary, "Memento Vitae," which screened at the prestigious London Short Film Festival.
Wakefield has significant theater experience. She most recently co-starred in Jeremy Brock's "The Blackest Black" at the Hampstead Theatre. Other roles on the boards include "Candida" at the Theatre Royal Bath, "These Shining Lives" at Finsbury's Park Theatre, "The Cherry Orchard" at the National Theatre, "No Naughty Bits" and "The Rivals" at the Southwark Playhouse, the latter earning her a nomination at the Ian Charleson Awards.
Wakefield has lent her voice to a number of radio projects, including "Votes for Women" on BBC Radio 3, "National Velvet" for BBC Radio 4 and "The Barchester Chronicles" on BBC Radio 4, which is due to broadcast later this year.
