Bio

ChrisDeo is a 16-year-old self-taught multi-instrumentalist and first-generation American. Her mother was born in Trinidad and Tobago, and her father is from Guyana. After her parents divorced when she was young, ChrisDeo was raised by her resilient mother in the Queens projects. Despite the challenges of their surroundings, her home was a sanctuary of peace and solace. Both ChrisDeo and her older sister, Aaliah, find comfort in the music that surrounds the walls of their home. ChrisDeo’s passion for music truly blossomed in 2016 when her mother enrolled her and her sister in the NYCHA Youth Chorus. There, ChrisDeo decided to teach herself piano chords, which opened the door to a world of instruments. Recently, she completed a program for low-income high school students at the NYU Clive Davis Institute where she learned to produce and record her own music. As a result, ChrisDeo has set up a makeshift home studio where she records covers and writes her songs. You can often find this high school senior busking with the cityscape as her backdrop.
