Fortunately, Late Night with Seth Meyers' "A Closer Look" segments exist to help us cope, while laughing hysterically.

While the segment, which is largely written by Late Night staff writer Sal Gentile, wasn't introduced until nearly two years into Seth Meyers' run as Host of Late Night, its popularity highlights what's unique about Meyers' late-night talk show. 

"'A Closer Look' has become sort of a catch-all for everything you would ever want to do as a talk-show host and a catch-all for every comedy move I have, which is two-and-a-half," Meyers told Emmys.com. "If we did a desk piece called 'Seth Does Political Impressions,' it would stink. If we did 'Seth Talks Really Fast,' nobody would like that. But in the body of 'A Closer Look,' we get to layer them all in. Because there's this connective thread of the day's news, there's this momentum to it."
