Colin Jost Has a Hilarious Update on His Ferry with Pete Davidson: "You're Going to be Begging"

Colin Jost said he was "stone cold sober" when he decided to buy a Staten Island Ferry with former Saturday Night Live co-star Pete Davidson.

By Jessica White

It was a hilarious moment when Saturday Night Live comics Colin Jost and Pete Davidson revealed their decision to purchase a decommissioned Staten Island ferry boat in a 2022 episode, but over a year after the announcement, Jost is keen to clarify that it was a decision made with a clear head.

How to Watch

Watch Saturday Night Live Saturdays at 11:30/10:30c on NBC and Peacock, streaming next day on Peacock.

SNL stars Jost and Davidson are not strangers to crafting a good idea: The two comics have created dozens of side-splitting sketches and Weekend Update segments on NBC's late-night showcase. Jost and Davidson share the same beloved frankness about their personal lives, often poking fun at themselves for a successful punchline — including when they discussed their latest bright idea, buying a Staten Island ferry.

Did Pete Davidson and Colin Jost Buy a Staten Island Ferry?

Davidson and Jost revealed their recent purchase during a Season 47 Weekend Update segment in which Davidson appeared as "Guy Who Just Bought a Ferry" as an homage to their investment.

"Hey!" Davidson declared. "We bought a ferry, the windowless van of the sea."

"Yes, it's very exciting," Jost joked. "We thought the whole thing through."

"We're boat people now, Colin," Davidson mused before throwing a dig Jost's way. "I mean, you always were. You look like, you know, you own the yacht they rent out for rap videos."

Colin Jost Says He Was Sober Buying Staten Island Ferry

On June 14, the Weekend Update host took to Instagram to clarify that, despite Davidson's recent comments, Jost bought the ferry without the encouragement of any substances.

Jost's IG clarification was accompanied by a picture of a tabloid headline claiming that he and Davidson were "very stoned" when they pulled the plug on the purchase.

"1. Is it worse that I was actually stone-cold sober when we bought the ferry?" Jost captioned the IG post. "2. We’re excited to prove the non-believers wrong. You’re going to be BEGGING to get on this ferry in two years. Mark my words. 3. UNRELATED I’m going on a Ferry Money Tour this week and next week. Stand-up in Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Minneapolis, Madison and Chicago with some very special guests. Come on by."

Well, there you have it.

Jost is not one to take his nautical investments lightly. In the same Season 47 SNL episode, Davidson shared that the comedians purchased the ferry alongside Davidson's friend, Pauley Italia, who Davidson teased is "the name of a real person and not a mafia-themed wrestler."

Italia spoke with The New York Post about their visions for the ferry, which echoes Jost's clarification over a year later.

"The idea is to turn the space into a live entertainment event space, with comedy, music, art, et cetera," their colleague revealed. "We're in the early stages, but everybody involved had the same ambition — not to see this thing go to the scrapyard."

Always the one to give us the news we want, Jost and Davidson seem to have a fun project in the works. We can't wait to get the next update from the Weekend Update host!
