Kelly Clarkson, a Queen, Sang This Aerosmith Hit Barefoot with a Glass of Wine
We raise our glass to this incredible cover that yet again proves Clarkson is one of pop music's greatest vocalists.
Kelly Clarkson sometimes likes to go old school with her covers.
Exhibit A: During her Meaning of Life Tour in 2019, Clarkson had a segment every show dedicated to covers. Sometimes she did newer hits, and other times — like the March 16 show in Baltimore, Maryland — she went for classics. In this case, it was "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith. During this performance, Clarkson got comfy on stage with a glass of red wine and no shoes. "I'm not 'gonna make y'all drink alone. I'm a better Host than that! Cheers," she said cheekily before taking a sip.
She then started teasing fans about the song she was about to cover. "I'm actually such a huge Aerosmith fan that it was hard to find a song that I haven't covered already," she said. "But I did. And it's funny, 'cause it's actually one of their biggest hits. But I've never sang it, I don't know why."
Clarkson opted to do a stripped-down, acoustic version of the rock anthem. "I could stay awake just to hear you breathing," she crooned. "Watch you smile while you are sleeping, while you're far away and dreaming."
"I could spend my life in this sweet surrender; I could stay lost in this moment forever. Every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure," she sang the intimate lyrics, as the track built up to its explosive chorus.
"Don't want to close my eyes, I don't want to fall asleep, 'cause I'd miss you baby, and I don't want to miss a thing," she belted. "'Cause even when I dream of you, the sweetest dream will never do. I'd still miss you baby, and I don't want to miss a thing."
When it was time for the second chorus, she repeated the lyrics with a hint of rasp in her voice. Then, it was time for the show-stopping bridge.
"I don't want to miss one smile, and I don't want to miss one kiss," she sang. "I just want to be with you, right here with you, just like this. I just want to hold you close. I feel your heart so close to mine. Just stay here in this moment, for all the rest of time."
"I can't believe I covered that song," Clarkson said after finishing with a giggle. "That's crazy!"
