NBC Bringing Live Summer Olympics Coverage To a Theater Near You
Go for the gold and watch the 2024 Paris Olympics on the big screen.
If you love a communal sports-watching experience, but can't swing by Paris this summer to catch the 2024 Olympic Games in person, your next best bet will be seeing some of the live coverage in a bonafide movie theater. In thrilling news for Olympics fans, NBCUniversal announced they’ll be bringing some daytime live coverage to the big screens of approximately 160 AMC Theatres across the country during the Summer Games. And NBC's coverage of the historic Opening Ceremonies will be available on more than 150 IMAX screens nationwide.
Viewers can now surrender themselves to the wonder of their favorite competitions in vivid color and detail, complete with immersive sound, comfy reclinable seats, and popcorn in hand. We can’t think of a better way to watch this year’s skilled athletes, including gymnasts, tennis champions, swimmers, wrestlers, and historic break dancers (the first dance sport to ever compete at the Olympics).
“The Olympic Games always provide a wonderful, shared experience, and this summer communities across the country will have the opportunity to cheer for Team USA or their own hometown hero in local AMC Theatres. The afternoon broadcasts on NBC will offer many of the most compelling live moments from Paris,” said Gary Zenkel, President of NBC Olympics, in a press release.
When will live coverage start at AMC Theatres?
You can plan on watching the momentous opening ceremony, which will see athletes from around the world process up the Seine River on July 26, from the comfort of your home on NBC and Peacock. AMC Theatres will kick off live event screenings the next day, July 27, when the Games begin in earnest, and continue through August 11, the last day of the games.
If there ever was a year to watch the Olympics in a movie theater, it’s 2024, with the monumental spectacle of Paris as the backdrop. The City of Light will host swimming events in the famous Seine River, volleyball matches in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, and break dancing on the Place de la Concorde (the location of Marie Antoinette’s demise). The Champs-Élysées, one of the most famous streets in the world, is undergoing an incredible “green” makeover with the planting of 400 new trees — and AMC viewers will get to take in the historic locations on the big screen.

This will be the third time Paris has hosted the Olympics. Although the history of the Olympics dates back more than a thousand years, the modern Olympic Games began in Paris in 1900, when women competed for the first time. Paris hosted one more time in 1924, and it now ties with London as the most frequent Summer Games host.
See the Opening Ceremonies in IMAX
Adding to the in-theater experience, NBCUniversal and IMAX announced March 22 that, for the first time, live coverage of the Olympic Opening Ceremonies in Paris will be broadcast to more than 150 IMAX screens across the U.S. The Opening Ceremonies promise to be a can't-miss event, as the athletes will process up the iconic Seine River on a flotilla of nearly 100 boats, past numerous Paris landmarks and hundreds of thousands of spectators before ending at the Trocadéro, where the ceremony will reach its dramatic conclusion.
Last week, NBC announced Grammy Award-winning musical artist and Emmy Award winning TV host Kelly Clarkson and NFL Hall of Famer Peyton Manning will join Mike Tirico for the network's Opening Ceremonies coverage.
"We look forward to providing our Opening Ceremony coverage to audiences at IMAX locations across the country, sharing in this historic moment as the world regathers to witness the spectacular beginning of 16 days of athletic greatness against the backdrop of one of the most beautiful cities in the world," Zenkel said in a statement.
Where do I buy tickets?
Tickets for AMC viewings will be available for purchase through AMC Theatres and Fandango this summer. Similarly, for the Opening Ceremonies in IMAX, tickets will be available at local IMAX locations and through Fandango.
A trailer for NBC's Olympics coverage will begin running in AMC Theaters and IMAX Theaters across the country beginning March 29.
And in addition to NBC's traditional over-the-air Olympics coverage, every event of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will stream live on Peacock.
