Ruzek and Burgess Looked So Young During Their Awkward First Kiss in Season 1
The Burzek timeline goes way back.
Although Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) are now officially engaged on Chicago P.D., their romance got off to a rocky start in the beginning of the show back in 2014.
Fans may remember the first kiss between the two in Season 1, which led to an intense, on-again and off-again relationship. Here's how it all went down.
Burgess and Ruzek's first kiss on Chicago P.D.
In Season 1, Episode 10 ("At Least It's Justice"), Burgess is processing having to fire her weapon for the first time and asks Ruzek how he manages to handle those type of situations.
''I don't really think about it,'' Ruzek says.
''Oh, so you just bury your feelings like a typical guy?'' Burgess asks with a playful sigh.
''No, it's not intentional or anything, it just really doesn't bother me,'' Ruzek insists.
''You don't ever think about the suspect you killed?'' Burgess inquires.

''Don't carry your problems around with you,'' Ruzek responds, but not before looking into Burgess' eyes and clearly getting flustered.
They then clink their drinks together and chuckle.
Later, when exiting the bar, Ruzek tell Burgess that he's ''around anytime you need to talk.''
There's a tense pause, before she grabs his face for a passionate kiss. However, Ruzek was engaged to another woman at the time.

''I'm so sorry...'' Ruzek says when she pulls away, before awkwardly darting off and driving away.

Fast forward to Chicago P.D. Season 11 a decade later, and Burgess and Ruzek are officially engaged (again). Ruzek proposed for the third time in Episode 3 titled ''Safe Harbor,'' but this time in a super romantic way.
"Let's get married. Let’s make it forever," Ruzek tells Burgess, while pulling out a diamond ring.
''Third time's a charm, huh?" Burgess lovingly joked, before calling the ring ''perfect.''
In an interview with NBC Insider, Squerciati told us how she feels about her character's major commitment, and what makes this time so different.
"Before, it was such a rocky, tumultuous relationship," she told us. "They never should have gotten engaged. But because they've been through everything and managed to stay together, it does seem like they've proved their mettle. They've been through the fire, they're ready. The bait and switch for Ruzek and Burgess are over. They'll go through stuff, but they're together now."
