Inside Sara James' AGT Audition That Had 3 Judges Ready to Hit Their Golden Buzzers
James eventually received the coveted honor from Simon Cowell.
Another singing Act has snagged an America's Got Talent Golden Buzzer this season.
One week after Madison Baez was pulled from the audience for an emotional Audition, Sara James wowed the Judges with her impressive vocals. The 13-year-old (now 14) traveled all the way from Poland to sing on the AGT stage.
"When I was little, I was always watching the videos on YouTube of the show, and I was so amazed by that," James said. "And they say that in America everything comes true, that dreams come true, so [I'm checking] if that’s true."
She then broke out into a rendition of Billie Eilish's 2018 hit, "Lovely," which particularly struck a chord with Simon Cowell.
"You have a real star glow about you," he said before telling James, "It must be such an unbelievable feeling doing this in front of an American audience because I’m guessing this is where you dreamt of performing. I can remember when I came to America for the first time 20 odd years ago, and that was a moment I’ll never forget. And I want to make this a moment for you to remember forever.” You know what happened after that: Insert Golden Buzzer.
"I pushed my Golden Buzzer for Sara because she is, in my opinion, a total star," Cowell told People magazine. "She flew across the world to audition on AGT 'to see if dreams come true'—that really resonated with me, as 20 years ago I came to those thoughts as well. I just didn't have her talent...We were all thinking the same thing on my particular Golden Buzzer. There were about three of us, I think, all prepared to jump on that Golden Buzzer. [Her] Act's so good."
James is the third Act of the season to earn the Golden Buzzer, which automatically advances the performer to the next round of competition. Howie Mandel gave his to Baez, and Terry Crews gifted his Golden Buzzer to saxophonist Avery Dixon.
In an interview with People, James said of her Golden Buzzer moment, "To be honest, I'm speechless. When I'm thinking of it, I'm literally shaking ... I'm just so happy. It's something that I've dreamed of, and it happened. It's so crazy!"
"In America, dreams come true. It's so amazing," she continued. "[Simon] made this whole trip to America so lovely—and America's actually really beautiful, to be honest. I'm in love and I want to live there—but it was such an amazing moment and when I think of it, I just want to cry."
America's Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
