Sofía Vergara Had a Leading Role in Chicago on Broadway—See the Pics
Remember this moment from 2009? Watch America's Got Talent on NBC.
America's Got Talent Judge Sofía Vergara has had a vibrant career both on screen and the stage. If you need an example of the latter, look no further than to the time she was on Broadway.
That's right! While we're used to seeing Vergara on AGT, she took her talents to New York City in 2009 to star in Chicago on Broadway, playing Matron "Mama" Morton. On April 14, 2023, Vergara reminded fans about this, sharing some photos from her stage run on Instagram.
"#tbt New York 2009. CHICAGO ❤️ Mama Morton. #Broadway🎭," Vergara captioned the throwback post. See the photos here.
Sofía Vergara's role in Chicago on Broadway
Vergara played "Mama" Morton for five weeks on Broadway. She then starred in the national tour of the show in Miami later that year before returning to Broadway for a week in June, Playbill reports.
In Chicago, the character "Mama" Morton is a sharp and defiant in-keeper at a women's prison who takes bribes to help inmates break out of the establishment. She sings the solo number "When You're Good to Mama," a personality-driven song that Vergara no-doubt crushed.
This impressive gig was right before the actress hit major fame with the show Modern Family.
As for Sofía Vergara's current endeavors, she's in the midst of taping the 18th season of America's Got Talent. She has taken to social media on many occasions to share behind-the-scenes tidbits with fans. The season premieres Tuesday, May 30 at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock
In late March, Vergara posted a video of herself and fellow Judge Heidi Klum backstage while filming Season 18 Auditions. In the clip, Vergara rocked a bright orange dress with a slit while Klum wore a fun lime green number. The two strutted towards an elevator just as it closed, but it opened again for them when Vergara tapped on the door, giggling. Friendship goals!
