In Case You Forgot: These Former Team Legend The Voice Artists Are Married Now

The Voice doesn't just make careers — it makes couples too!

By Josh Weiss

Even if you don't win The Voice, you might just walk away from the NBC-hosted competition series with a lifelong romantic partner. Talk about a consolation prize!

How to Watch

Watch The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

That's exactly what happened for John Holiday and Rio Souma, who ended up hitched after their time as members of Team Legend all the way back in Season 19, which aired in the fall and winter of 2020. The two were married in Houston during a ceremony officiated by the city's former mayor, Sylvester Turner, and will celebrate their two-year wedding anniversary this summer. The crazy thing is the couple might never have met had it not been for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking to Outsmart Magazine in August 2022, Holiday — who placed in fifth by the end of Season 19 — recalled how he declined numerous offers to appear on The Voice. "Not because I didn’t want to do it, but because I didn’t have the time," he explained. "I have been booked back-to-back for the majority of my career, and I consider that a really big blessing in my life."

Once the health crisis brought every live-performance industry to a screeching halt, however, Holiday needed to pivot. “Everything was canceled in the art world during that time, so my window of opportunity opened. The Voice miraculously called me again, asking me if I would audition,” the singer continued. “So I went on an audition just like everybody else. I didn’t know what was going to happen, but I knew that I was going to give it my all."

While Souma was eliminated during Battles, he still got to see his future husband make it all the way to the Season 19 finale. In the years since, Holiday has released three singles: “Alive in Me," “Waste Mine,” and “Love Finds A Way." In particular, "Waste Mine" comes with a great backstory, as it came to Holiday while he and Souma were still dating.

"I believed that it was the closest representation of what I felt about him and our budding relationship," he told CelebMix. "For me, it was such a specific fairytale story that I believed was happening in my life. All at once, the song represents the butterflies I felt about Rio’s and my new relationship, but it also showed that love was possible."
