Dua Lipa and Seth Meyers Explain Why Her "Day Drinking" Ended Early, and It's Hilarious

As with every installment of "Day Drinking" with Seth Meyers, Dua Lipa's episode was a silly, slurry delight, in which two extremely-fun-seeming people spend the afternoon getting to know each other over games and often-disgusting cocktail concoctions. Unlike the "Day Drinking" eps that have preceded it, though, their hangout had to come to an unexpectedly early end. So on January 9, the "Houdini" singer returned to Late Night with Seth Meyers to finish what she started with her drinking buddy Meyers.

Drinking buddy and new best friend, that is—a bond cemented by matching tattoos, as the Late Night Host hired an artist to ink them both. But first, Dua sat down with Meyers to revisit their "Day Drinking" session, which ended a little early when Dua needed a few minutes...and then a few more minutes, and then the rest of the day to digest the alcohol in her system. (As would we).

As Meyers welcomed Dua, she was sure to return Meyers' maroon "shacket," aka shirt-jacket—accidentally wearing someone else's coat home from the bar is a time-honored drinking tradition, right?

Then, the two broke down exactly what had happened during that shots game.

"I should note that at some times during day drinking, we offer to the guest, 'do you want to switch to shots of water?'" Meyers told Dua. "You were a big 'no' on that."

"Look, first of all, I'm very happy that I get to live another day," Dua laughed. "And it's not something I like to brag about, but I think I'm a good drinker." Yet, she admits, "I wasn't prepared for what was waiting for me."

What happened during Dua Lipa's "Day Drinking" with Seth Meyers?

As Meyers recalls, the two of them were having "a grand ol' time," and Dua agreed. 

"Within like, 45 minutes, we were having a laugh. We were talking. We started drinking," Dua explained. "It was multiple shots, lots of different types of shots: Gin, vodka, rum, tequila..."

"All those ones you're not supposed to do on the same day," Meyers agreed. 

"About 12 of those, in 45 minutes," Dua said (we see now, why Late Night offers the water-substitute option). The show wanted to break for food, which the pop star thought was a good idea. Then she urged Meyers to join her for a smoke break, and "after that, I started getting a little bit dizzy."

"I was like, "I'm just gonna pop to the bathroom. I'm sure I'm gonna be completely fine," Dua continued.

And that's when Dua Lipa fell asleep in the bathroom. 

For the record, she described feeling "comfortable" and "very cozy" while she was "slumped" in the powder room. After that, she wanted to power through, but Late Night and Dua Lipa's team knew cutting things short was the responsible call. 

"The only thing I remember after that point is the fact that I woke up in my bed," Dua continued. "I was full ragdoll." Mind you, this is DAY drinking, so Dua was halfway to Hangovertown before sundown.

Naturally, Dua Lipa FaceTimed her new friend Seth Meyers, so they could piece together what had transpired. 

"We FaceTimed," Meyeres said. "It was like not even 6:00 and we were both fully in bed. We had both passed out so hard—we were both fully clothed, it should be noted. Like, I think I still had my coat on."

Then, Meyers shared what went down from his perspective. "The really funny thing to me is I was behind the bar, and people kept coming up and being like, 'Dua just needs five more minutes.' I'm like, 'Great.' And then someone was like, 'She just needs 10 more minutes.' I'm like, 'You bet. Dua's gonna be great! And then they were like, 'Hey, uh, she's gone.' And I'm like, 'What!?'

Still, Team Late Night did have a few remaining stunts that Dua and Meyers weren't able to enjoy when their "Day Drinking" was cut short. No problem, because the ever-game Dua Lipa was down for a do-over.

First up: Shots down a Barbie Dream House luge to celebrate Dua's "Dance the Night" hit from the 2023 film (it comes complete with Seth and Dua dolls). 

And then it was time to get inked. "We're gonna be like, bonded for life," Dua told Meyers, as she got a teeny star on her heel.
